Moving our bodies is good for our health, especially for the brain! What about combining mental exercise with physical exercise? Some research suggests there may be greater benefit for the extra effort. Come learn about and/or participate in some on-going research to see if combined exercise such as novel and playful "neuro-exergaming" might be useful in addressing cognitive challenges. A NIH-funded clinical trial is underway for those with mild cognitive impairment to push back against Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. A team from Union College, Albany Med, Boston, and California are working to adapt the tablet-based pedal-n-play interactive Physical and Cognitive Exercise System (iPACES) to see how it might also be useful in Parkinson's Disease. Those interested in a more interactive experience can sign up to meet with a student from the team to help them practice their clinical research skill (12:15-12:45 for a brief survey and tests of thinking), to be followed by a presentation by Professor Cay Anderson-Hanley @ 1pm. There will also be opportunity as well for those interested to pedal-n-play the iPACES neuro-exergame. For more information or a preview check out: www.myipaces.org or email the professor at: andersoc@union.edu.
Please note: Before the October's Meeting on Tuesday, October 18th, there will be an interactive portion at 12:15 - 12:45 for "neuro-exercising". Just e-mail Marie at softballmom300@yahoo.com to sign-up.
